Hey all, does anyone know where these white areas are coming from? There should be black shadows instead. I’m using a ground plane with “occlusion”, but it also shows up when no ground plane is used. Changing the environment’s color from white to grey before rendering didn’t bring any effect.
Hi Miriam,
I would almost assume those parts are not covered in blue paint but uncovered metal being that reflective. If they are painted maybe the paint lacks roughness?
Hard to tell without example scene. If you want you can share the scene with wetransfer.com so we can take a look.
I guess to toggle off the ground illumination to get correct results
Thanks for your replies. Toggling off the ground illumination didn’t bring any changes. Also changing the material didn’t help. I also tried to change the environment, disable the groundplane, nothing happens… I’m not sure what I can do more.
Hi Miriam,
I actually tried about almost every setting and I thought I got it since the scale of your scene is 10x too small, you can change scene units to cm and it will ask you to just change units or also change the scale. You need to select ‘change scale’.
While that doesn’t solve your issue it’s important to work with real sizes in KeyShot. Since they have quite an impact on how shadows etc look. You will also see a bit of a change in those if you rescale.
About the issue… I was thinking, I don’t think you actually see a highlight on the ground from the bottom of the doors but I think it’s the shadow of the other parts that actually make it seem there is a highlight on the floor.
It sure gets less if you have the ground plane enabled from your scene but looking at it with this in mind your render actually makes sense while it might seem off at first.
I lifted the container quite a bit and it still has the same effect so I really think there’s anything wrong with it. It’s basically just a kind of optical illusion.
If you want to get rid of that ‘feel’ I think you can change it by using a HDR with a more directional light. Still the container casts it shadows so I think the effect will always be there a bit depending on how dark the floor is.
So I thought, let’s google a bit and I found this picture and it shows exactly the same:
